I was in talks with a friend of mine about a stud finder, he was clueless about it, I assumed this was a common thing to know. So, I went on to explain that stud finders were handheld devices that detects wood or metal in the wall.
I would also go out on a limb and say these are a must if you are living in a house with drywall. Chances are you will eventually want to mount a shelf, television, cabinets for items, etc. The best and safest way to do so is mounting these items to a stud.
Stud finders come in all shapes and sizes, let’s take a look at the latest stud finder I got my hands on.
Introducing the Dewalt ¾ inch Stud Finder, the name speaks for itself. It has a detection depth of ¾ inches. Most homes I worked in had 5/8 drywall as the standard so ¾ in depth should not be an issue: this device detects wood, or metal studs beneath wall surfaces.
The flat and compact design makes it easy to hold, it’s so thin it can be easily be tucked away in your back pocket or tool bag.
If you enjoy simplicity, you will love this. I have owned many stud detectors, and the first thing I notice about this was the thinness.
The body is quite wide at 5.8in, actually the widest of all the ones I own, but It’s comfortable to hold.
The device is constantly self-calibrating to save time during use. The Center-find technology quickly locates the center of the stud even at an angle.
The center marking channel is there for added convenience, I like this feature.
What can you expect from the Dewalt 3/4in Stud Finder?
The Center-find technology works great. Even If you are slightly at an angle, it will detect it. The stud finder can detect wood, metal, and live AC wires. You can detect up to a ¾ in depth.
Not only do you get to see a visual indicator for the stud location, but there is also an arrow for directional guidance. The LEDs are a great addition but even better when you have the both a visual and audible indicator.
Overall an excellent product and I think the center hole is a nice touch. Can’t go wrong with it, the prices seem fair, and most importantly, it works well.
