This post (Dewalt 15-Amp 12 in. Double-Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw) is sponsored by The Home Depot
I was really due for a new miter saw. Don’t get me wrong I like the saw I currently use, the main issues It has is the 10in blade. That in itself provides a few limitations. It’s been a few years since I have had a 12in saw and “whew” do I miss the ability to slice through materials. When I first plugged in Dewalt 15 Amp 12 Inch Double Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw My first thoughts “IT’S A BEAST”. I enjoy getting my hands on new tools especially the ones I use all the time. So I am excited to share my experience and some of the features encountered during my first few uses.
Before I get into the specs, one of the issue I typically come across is new miters saw are usually out of alignment. Right out of the box this was calibrated. I checked the fence to the blade, and I check the blade to the base using a square. I would still recommend you double check, you can not assume the factory calibration is on point.
What can you expect?
This is a 12” compound miter saw, which is great for taking on multiple cutting application. This can be anything from dimensional lumber to crown molding up to 7.5in. You can expect a powerful 15 amp, 3800 RPM motor. The motor rides on two steel rails and linear ball bearings for increased accuracy and smooth sliding. Speaking of accuracy the miter detent plate has10 positive stops, for accuracy and maximizing productivity. Overall that saw is not too heavy (56lb) but it’s not the easiest to tote, I find it to be bulky if you want to lift it by the handle.

Does the DWS779 come with a crown stop?
Unfortunately, this saw does not come with a crown stop kit.
Is this the best Miter saw for DIY?
I think everyone will have a different preference, but it’s a great option. It takes a decent amount of space. So consider where you want to use it and store it.
DWS779 pros and cons
Let’s cover the advantage first. Great saw, very powerful and somewhat compact. Well made as you would expect, it comes with a dust bag, but you can still connect a shop vac for a better dust collect option. There is 10 positive stop is such an improvement over my older saws. A massive plus for me was the saw came calibrated from the factory.
The thing the saw lack. Although this is a great saw, I am bombed about the fact that this lacks a few features my other saw had. This saw is missing the work support, I am pretty used to the pull-out support on a miter saw, so this something I will have to adjust to. It’s not a big deal if have a dedicated miter station. Another feature I enjoyed having was a laser; this saw does not come equipped with one.

14 Gal. 6.0-Peak HP NXT Wet Dry Vacuum
I can not say enough about Ridgid Wet Dry Vaccum line, to be honest, it’s I all ever owned. This vacuum is number 4, I bought the first one back in 2011, and I recently gave it to my dad, I put a beating on it. Pulling water from PVC pipes during construction when I was a technician, clean cars to recently grabbing all the sawdust from my shop tools. The RIDGID 14 Gal. NXT is the newest of three in the shop. They all have a purpose. One is dedicated to the table saw, one is for general show use and circular saw this one is for the Dewalt Compound Miter Saw. I have meant to make a miter saw station, but I tend to put some of these projects on the back burner. They are coming.
Since the miter saw tends to be wild with the way it handles dust, I went with the vacuum I felt was best for managing the big clean up. The NXT Vac is a more advanced design and offers 35% more power. It comes with a VF5000 which is a 3-Layer fine dust filter that captures up to 99.5% of all dust particles. So that drywall dust, sawdust, cement dust, and fine powders will be contained. This Vaccum comes with a 20ft power cord which is perfect for home garages and job site to give you the ability to maneuver freely.
The NXT vacuum comes with 7ft interlocking tug hose and a few attachments. You can capture dust or swap filter to the VF7000 for wet applications. There is also a built-in drain at the bottom for easy disposal of water. The Vacuum has a durable 2-piece heavy-duty drum construction so no collapsing and you also get more space. Ridgid also offers a lifetime warranty on this to make the deal even sweeter. Right now these are on sale for $89.00 at Home Depot.
